01 Jul 2025
A research paper co-authored by Jok Cobar, Subject Area Coordinator for Physical Education at Ateneo de Manila Senior High School (ASHS), and Eirenne Lumasang, also from ASHS and currently with the Research Subject Area (formerly of the PE Subject Area), was recently published in Sport Mont, a Scopus-indexed international journal (Digital Object Identifier/DOI: 10.26773/smj.250604). The scholarly article is titled “Perception of Physique Aesthetic, Fitness, and Anthropometric Scores of Filipino Body Samples.”
Published in June 2025, the groundbreaking study engaged over 2,000 Filipino respondents to examine how perceptions of physical attractiveness and fitness align with actual anthropometric and fitness data. Among its key findings, the study reveals that attributes such as shoulder-to-waist ratio (SWR) in men and waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) in women significantly influence perceived attractiveness and fitness levels. It also challenges common assumptions in the fitness industry, particularly within the Philippine context.
The paper not only contributes valuable insights to the fields of sports science and body image research but also enhances Ateneo de Manila University's research visibility and impact on the global stage. As a Scopus-indexed publication, it strengthens the university’s standing in international university rankings such as Times Higher Education (THE) and QS, where research output and citation metrics are key indicators.
The Digital Object Identifier (DOI) acts like an article’s unique identifier, ensuring its traceability across indexing systems and allowing researchers and institutions to account for their scholarly contributions.
ASHS commends Coach Jok and Coach Eirenne for this significant academic achievement and for representing Ateneo with distinction in the global research community. Your work continues to inspire, inform, and elevate our institution’s commitment to academic excellence.
