Incoming grade 4 student athlete Roman Almiranez shines in fencing competitions
10 Jul 2025
Ateneo de Manila Grade School (AGS) student athlete Roman Almiranez (formerly of 3-Bulusan and entering Grade 4 this school year) continued to show both excellence and resilience in the sport of fencing during his summer break.
Last month, Roman earned a bronze medal in the Under 10 Men’s Foil category at the Philippine Fencing Association (PFA) MiniMe First Leg held in Ormoc City on 7-8 June 2025. He went on to win another bronze medal at Republic Fencing’s The Young Musketeers 2025, held in Libis, Quezon City on 28-29 June 2025. Most recently, he brought home a silver medal in the PFA MiniMe (Second Leg) in Cubao, Quezon City on July 5–6, 2025.
Roman’s fencing journey has not been without challenges. Last March, he was diagnosed with Kawasaki disease, which forced him to take a break from both school and fencing for 2–3 weeks. He couldn’t resume training until he was fully cleared by his doctors.
With faith, determination, and the support of his family and medical team, Roman made a full recovery. Just a month later, he picked up his foil and was back on the piste— grateful, stronger, and more passionate than ever about the sport he loves.
