Ateneo Juniors place 3rd in 2025 PAYA Chess tourney; Marc Fua wins gold

Composed of players from ASHS and AJHS, the Ateneo de Manila Juniors chess team ended its campaign in the recently concluded 2025 Philippine Amateur Youth Association (PAYA) Chess Tournament with a 2nd runner-up finish. Aidan Mejia (11-Hurtado) is the sole player from ASHS, while Pio Caro (9-Garnet), Yash Cayabyab (10-Saito), Arjay Co (8-Colombiere), Marc Fua (8-Delgado) and Elliot Peralta (8-Fausti) are all from AJHS. They are coached by Ildefonso Datu.

The Blue Eagles won medals in their individual boards, winning one gold, one silver, and two bronzes. Marc Fua grabbed gold for board 3 after he won all five games he played (5-0). Pio Caro bagged a silver medal for board 5 after winning four of his five games (4-1). Meanwhile, Arjay Co (4-2) and Yash Cayabyab (2-0) each bagged a bronze medal for boards 4 and 6, respectively.


The PAYA Chess Tournament was held from 22 to 23 of February 2025 at La Salle Greenhills in Mandaluyong City.
