Blue Eagles fly high at the 2025 Jesuit Athletic Meet

04 Feb 2025

The Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles soared at the 2025 Jesuit Athletic Meet (JAM 2025), winning gold in all events at the tournament.

The 2025 collegiate Jesuit Athletic Meet took place at Ateneo de Manila's Loyola Heights campus from 29 January to 1 February 2025. JAM 2025 saw five schools – Ateneo de Davao University, Ateneo de Naga University, Ateneo de Zamboanga University, Xavier University, and of course Ateneo de Manila University – competing in six events. The events were men's basketball, women's 3-on-3 basketball, men's volleyball, women's volleyball, men's football, and women's futsal.

In all these events, Ateneo de Manila's Blue Eagles won every single game they played in on the way to winning gold in all events.

The first team to clinch their title was the Ateneo Women's Basketball Team who clinched the Women's 3x3 Basketball crown on Friday, 31 January, defeating Xavier University 20-11 in the finals. Phia Cruza was named the most valuable player (MVP) for the tournament.

The Ateneo Women's Football Team followed suit with their own championship in Women's Futsal, winning against Ateneo de Naga University 9-1. Angely Alferez, who scored hat tricks in both the finals game and the semi-finals against Xavier University, was named MVP.

On the final day of JAM 2025, the Ateneo Men's Football Team was the first to clinch their title, taking a 1-0 win in a hard-fought game against Xavier University. Jethro Flores was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament, while Galen Fernandez – who scored the goal during the finals – was named Man of the Match for the finals.

The Ateneo Women's Volleyball team won its finals match against Ateneo de Davao University two sets to null. The first set went down the wire, with the Blue Eagles winning 25-22 against the Blue Knights. They came back stronger in the second game, sealing their championship run with a final score of 25-14.

MVP for the Women's Volleyball tournament was AC Miner.

For the finals of Men's Volleyball, the Ateneo Men's Volleyball Team played two dominant sets against Xavier University – scoring 25-15, 25-10 – to take the gold. The most valuable player was none other than Team Captain Lance De Castro.

Finally, for the Men's Basketball Tournament, the Ateneo Men's Basketball Team capped their undefeated run with a dominant 68-46 win against Ateneo de Zamboanga.

The MVP nod for the Men's Basketball tournament went to rookie Kymani Ladi. Ladi only joined the Blue Eagles last year and had to sit out from the UAAP Season 87 tournament, making this one of his first tournaments for the team.

The success of the Blue Eagles bodes well for the team's coming into 2025 and the various competitions that will take place this year, and this taste of gold should inspire the players to win more in the future. Here's looking to more success for Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles.
