Grade 3 fencer Roman Almiranez bags 3 bronzes in Malaysia Minime tourney

Three AGS student athletes represented the Philippines and won medals in the 3rd Malaysian Fencing Federation Minime International Tournament held recently in Kuala Lumpur.
Leading the medalists was Roman Almiranez (3-Bulusan), who bagged three bronzes for the U- 8 Men’s Individual Foil, the U-8 Men’s Individual Épeé, and the U-10 Men’s Team Foil.

Also on the bronze-winning U-10 Men’s Team Foil quartet was Liam Ibarra (5-Ifugao).
Last but not least, Aidan Taguinod (6-Pignatelli) also won bronze in the U-12 Men’s Team Sabre, where he was teamed with AJHS student Eliam Mojica (7-Aranha) and two non-Ateneans.
Roman Almiranez has been fencing since March 2023, and has won many awards ranging from bronze to gold in the U8 category. His main weapon is Foil. He joined the 3rd Malaysian Fencing Federation Minime International Tournament 2024 despite being sick for days before the competition.
Ateneo’s sabre coaches are Rebekah Reyno and Edward Daliva, who also accompanied the Ateneo contingent to Malaysia and coached the Blue Eagles for the event.
Held from 30 November to 5 December 2024, the Minime International Tournament attracted competitors from fencing schools in the Philippines, Australia, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, and Malaysia.
