Arjay Co bags 2 bronzes for chess in Batang Pinoy

Ateneo de Manila Junior High School chess wizard Arjay Co (8-Colombiere) brought home two bronze medals from the recent Batang Pinoy 2024 national games held in Puerto Princesa, Palawan. Competing in the U13 age category, Arjay bagged bronzes in the Blitz Event (team) and the ASEAN Chess Rapid Event.

Arjay also tied for 3rd Place in the Individual Blitz and Rapid Team events, but settled for 4th after tiebreak in both events.
Organized by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), Batang Pinoy (a.k.a. the Philippine Youth Games) is the national youth sports competition of the Philippines for athletes between 12 and 17 years old. The competition was created to determine the possible composition of the national pool of athletes that will compete internationally in tournaments such as the Southeast Asian Games, Asian Games, and the Olympics.
Batang Pinoy 2024 was held from 23 – 28 November 2024 across various sports venues in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan. Around 12,000 young athletes from 177 LGUs participated in 30 sporting events, which for the first time included jiu-jitsu, kurash and obstacle course.
