PH's Aiden Lazaro wins award for Most RBIs at World Cup qualifier in Japan
11 Dec 2024
Representing the Philippines, Ateneo de Mania Grade School (AGS) student athlete Aiden Lazaro (6-Miki) received one of the nine highly coveted individual awards - Most Runs Batted In (RBI) - in the U-12 Asian Baseball Championship held from 23 to 30 November 2024 in Matsuyama, Japan. The team captain of the Ateneo Bronco Team, Aiden outperformed the strongest hitters of the top 3 teams from Taipei, Korea, and Japan for the award.

A World Cup qualifier, the Asian Baseball Championship was the only big league tournament series where the Philippine Amateur Baseball Association (PABA) fielded national teams. Aiden is one of the youngest players in our U-12 National Team, which is composed of the very best 12-years-old-and-under baseball players selected following a yearlong series of rigorous tryouts and elimination rounds.
And though the team did not make it to the Super Round, the Philippines was ranked 5th overall and emerged as Placement Round Champion thanks to landslide victories against India, Hong Kong, and Thailand.
The performance of our U-12 team in Japan will contribute significantly to our country’s World Baseball ranking, which is a consolidation of the points earned by all national team divisions.
