Ateneo Midgets Chess Team is back-to-back PRADA champion

The Ateneo de Manila Midgets Chess Team captured the Midgets Division championship for the second consecutive year in the recently concluded 2024 Private Schools Athletic Development Association (PRADA) Chess Tournament.

The team was composed of AJHS players Arjay Co (7-Andlauer), Enzo Hernandez (7-Balmain), Marcus Dizon (7-Azevedo), Nyle Tapdasan (7-Baldinucci), Elliot Peralta (7-Balmain) and Joey Enriquez (8-Colombiere).
The Blue Eagles also dominated their individual boards, with Arjay Co bringing home the gold for Board 1; Enzo Hernandez and Marcus Dizon each getting the bronze for Boards 2 and 3, respectively; Nyle Tapdasan securing silver for Board 4; and Elliot Peralta adding another gold for Board 5.


The Blue Eagles bested the other midgets teams from Xavier School, La Salle Greenhills, International School of Manila, Marist School and Notre Dame of Greater Manila.
Meanwhile, members of the Ateneo Chess Team who battled in the Juniors Division also brought home individual medals. Tiel Blanca (11-Nakaura) brought home the gold for Board 4, while Liam Batnag (12-Solinas) and Pio Caro (8-Chabanel) each won bronze for Boards 3 and 5, respectively.


The Ateneo Midgets Team was coached by Luffe Magdalaga and Yves Rañola while the Ateneo Juniors Team was coached by Ilde Datu.
The first three rounds of the PRADA Chess Tournament were held on 24 February 2024, while the penultimate and final rounds were held on 9 March 2024, at La Salle Greenhills in Mandaluyong City.
