Two incoming Ateneo de Manila Senior High School Grade 12 student athletes, Ivo Enot and Renzo Tirol, have earned multiple medals each and helped the NCR team establish two swimming records in the ongoing Palarong Pambansa 2023.
On August 1, day one of the games, Ivo Enot and three other swimmers from the NCR set a new record in the 200-meter medley relay. As reported by GMA News, “The quartet of NCR swimmers Ivo Nikolai Enot, Ivan Nicolas Radovan, Hugh Antonio Parto, and Jalil Sephraim Taguinod… broke a Palaro record after ruling the secondary boys 200m medley relay with a time of 1:49.47.” The report adds that the quartet shattered the previous record of 1:51.18 by more than one second, which was set also by the NCR in 2018 at the Vigan-hosted games.

On August 2, it was Tirol’s turn to help establish another Palaro swimming record. The Inquirer reports that the NCR relay quartet of Cezar Nazareno, Victoriano (Renzo) Tirol, Jared Cheng and Arbeen Thruelen capped off day 2 by smashing NCR’s previous standard of 1:41.45 in the secondary boys’ 200-meter freestyle relay. Their golden victory compiled a clocking of 1:40.64 that erased the previous Palaro record by less than one second.

Individually, Ivo Enot has won another gold for the 200m backstroke, while Renzo Tirol has bagged two bronzes for the 100m breaststroke and the 50m breaststroke.
At the UAAP Season 85 Swimming Championships held last November, Enot was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the junior boys division after collecting five golds and two silvers in individual events. Tirol’s UAAP 85 haul was four golds and one bronze, also for individual events.
Hosted by Marikina City, Palarong Pambansa is ongoing until August 5, with swimming events being held at the Marikina Sports Center.
Over 9,000 elementary and high school student athletes from the Philippines’ 17 regions are competing in the games, whose theme is “Batang Malakas, Bansang Matatag.”
