AGS-powered “Blazing Eagles” team is Metro Showdown champ; Baliwag and Gandionco are MVPs

The Blazing Eagles team- whose roster includes 13 Ateneo de Manila Grade School boys- emerged as 11-under champion of CityHoops Basketball League’s “Metro Showdown Tournament” on March 5, 2023. The team’s 13 Ateneans (with their sections from SY 2022-2023 in parentheses) were Sam Arao (4-Sikatuna), Julian Baliwag (4-Lakandula), Cash Escalona (5-Maguindanao), Karl Gandionco (5-Tagbanwa), Marco Jorge (5-Dumagat), Newo Madamba (5-Tagbanwa), Gavin Manlutac (5-Ivatan), Jaime Ong (5-Talaandig), Luke Redulla (4-Rajah Matanda), Rosher Samson (4-Dagohoy), Arkin Valinton (4-Tausug), Miguel Violago (4-Sikatuna), and Keno Ymasa (5-Mangyan).
For individual achievement awards, Julian Baliwag and Karl Gandionco were both named Mythical Five selections and MVP award recipients. Baliwag was crowned MVP of the Tournament while Gandionco was crowned MVP of the Finals.
The Blazing Eagles were coached by Ronald Perada for the competition, which was held at Victoria Sports Tower in Quezon City.
