Chess wiz Arjay Co is AAPS unit meet champion

Ateneo de Manila Grade School chess wizards Arjay Co (6-Berchmans) and Marc Fua (6-Pignatelli) emerged as the overall champion and first runner-up, respectively, of the recent Chess Unit Meet organized by the Athletic Association of Private Schools (AAPS). Arjay scored 5 wins out of 5 rounds in the grade school division, including the final Armageddon match. Meanwhile, Marc scored 4 wins out of 5 rounds in the same division.

Held at the School of Saint Anthony in Lagro, Quezon City on January 28, 2023, the tournament was conducted over-the-board under a time control of 20 minutes plus 5 seconds increment.
Having won 1st and 2nd place, Arjay and Marc will represent Quezon City private schools in the district meet elimination round to determine who will represent QC in the NCR Regional Meet en route to the 2023 Palarong Pambansa nationals.
Arjay and Marc are both members of the AGS Chess Varsity and were coached for the AAPS Unit Meet by Joann Datu and Ildefonso Datu.
