Ateneo girls’ swim team is 2nd runner-up of UAAP 85; Lora Amoguis is MVP

Thanks mainly to the seven golds won by Lora Amoguis (11-Garnet), Ateneo de Manila University emerged as girls’ second runner-up of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 85 Swimming Championships, with Amoguis also being named Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the junior girls’ division. Amoguis won gold in each of the seven events she swam, which were the 200m Individual Medley, 100m Freestyle, 200m Backstroke, 200m Freestyle, 100m Backstroke, 400m Individual Medley, and 50m Backstroke.
Teammates Andrea Antig (11-Escribano) and Chelo Neri (12-Denn) also contributed points to the tally by qualifying in the finals of six events. Antig swam in the 200m freestyle finals while Neri competed in the finals for the 100m freestyle, 200m individual medley, 200m breaststroke, 50m freestyle, and 50m breaststroke.
Of her UAAP 85 experience and being named MVP, the elated Amoguis says, “I was so thrilled about winning that I was unable to comprehend everything that happened!”

The UAAP Season 85 Swimming Championships were held at the Teofilo Yldefonso Swimming Pool of the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila from November 24 to 27, 2022.
