The RP Basketball Club (“RPBC”) Born-2008 team- eleven of whose members are from Ateneo de Manila Junior High School- recently notched its seventh and eighth 14U championships. RPBC won the inaugural Hotshots Invitational Basketball League on September 27, and the Milcu Got Skills “I Got Next” basketball tournament on October 2, 2022. AJHS student-athlete Zane Kallos (Montserrat/8-Ishida) was also named 14U Finals MVP of Milcu’s “I Got Next” series with a stat line of 22 pts., 10 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals.

The other AJHS boys rostered in these championships are Aiori Aquino (La Storta/9-Fausti), Sancho Enrique (Montserrat/9-Lalemant), Bugsy Lavarro (La Storta/9-Favre), Javier Lopez (Pamplona/9-Southwell), Gabe Mercado (Montserrat/8-Isore), Q Molina (Cardoner/8-Aranha), Dane Panesa (Montserrat/9-Lalemant), Coco Santos (Cardoner/9-Baena), Drake Tagudin (Pamplona/9-Sitjar) and Alfonso Tan (Cardoner/9-Baldinucci).

The Hotshots Invitational games were held at the Prime Mobility Sports and Recreation Center in Quezon City, while the games for Milcu’s “I Got Next” series were played at West Greenhills Gymnasium in San Juan City.
“I Got Next” Finals MVP Kallos was ably supported by fellow AJHS schoolmates Alfonso Tan (19 pts, 2 rebounds, 5 assists and 7 steals) and Aoiri Aquino, who manned the slot and scored 5 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal and, more importantly, intimidated, altered and tallied 3 blocked shots.
With eight (out of ten) championships won in 2022, RPBC continues to assert its dominance, making it one of the most successful age-level basketball teams in AJHS history. RPBC emerged as the number one team of Milcu’s “I Got Next” tournament by sweeping the elimination round, eventually annihilating Infinite Basketball Club, 112-49, to cap another undefeated season.
RPBC will celebrate its eight title wins by hosting a thanksgiving/fans’ day and donation drive for the benefit of Childhope Foundation. It will also conduct a free basketball clinic and outreach day for the less fortunate.
