Faber Cabrera wins 4 medals in nat’l fencing qualifiers; will rep PH in World Fencing Championships

Ateneo de Manila Junior High School epeeist Faber Cabrera (Cardoner/9-Berchmans) won four medals and was ranked among the top 10 during the three legs of national fencing qualifiers held in the Ormoc City Superdome in Leyte earlier this month. The first leg was the Dr. Celso Dayrit Fencing Cup held from Feb. 11-12. There, Faber won a silver for cadet men’s epee and was ranked ninth in senior men’s epee. The second leg was the Mayor Richard Gomez Fencing Cup held from Feb. 13-14, where Faber won gold in junior men’s epee. He also won bronze and was ranked fourth in senior men’s epee. The third and final leg was the SEA Games and Asian Games Qualifying competition held from Feb. 15 to 17, where Faber won gold in the senior men’s epee team event and ranked eighth in senior men’s epee.

As a result of his performance at these competitions, Faber has qualified to represent the Philippines in the Junior & Cadet World Fencing Championships to be held in Dubai from April 2 to 10, 2022.
