Bachelor of Arts in Literature
The AB Literature Program is designed for students who seek a profound and scholarly appreciation of literature written in the English Language. They will be introduced over the course of the program to literature from across the globe in order to develop competence in the analysis of literary texts, writing of critical essays, and evaluation of different literary traditions and orientations.

Electives
- The Literature Major can choose from diverse fields including but not limited to the following:
- Creative Writing in Fiction
- Poetry and Non-Fiction
- Reading Children’s Literature
- Romantic Literature
- Shakespeare Tragedies
- Shakespeare and Film
- Fatal Fiction (a study of destiny in novels)
- Modern Poetry
- Contemporary Drama
- Gender and Genre courses
- courses in Literary Theory and Criticism

Minor in Literature
Pre-requisites
- At least a sophomore
- No grade lower than C in ENGL 11 and ENLIT 12
Procedure
- Submit a copy of your grades to the department then download a Load Revision Form (LRF) from AISIS.
- Fill out LRF. Have it signed by the Chair or the Program Coordinator of the Department of English and accomplish the LIT minor application form.
- Submit a photocopy of the approved LRF to the Literary and Cultural Studies Program.
- Enroll in 3 of the required literature subjects and in any literature elective of choice. (TOTAL: 12 units)
- When enrolled, complete all required and elective subjects with a grade no lower than C.
Requirements
Required literature subjects (9 units).
The student will choose from:
- One from these two options:
- ENLIT 31 (Literatures of the Western World I: Europe)
- ENLIT 32 (Literatures of the Western World II: North America)
- One from these four options:
- ENLIT 81 (Postcolonial Literatures I: Africa and the Middle East)
- ENLIT 82 (Postcolonial Literatures II: Asia and Latin America)
- ENLIT 91 (World Literatures I: Genealogies and Translations Across Europe and North America)
- ENLIT 92 (World Literatures II: Theories and Transnationalities Across Latin America, Asia and Africa)
- One from these two options:
- ENLIT 71 (Literatures of the Philippines I: Region and Nation)
- ENLIT 72 (Literatures of the Philippines II: Literary and Cultural Studies)
Electives
Literature Elective (3 units)
The student will choose from any literature elective offered during the semester.
