Sociolinguistics in English Education
This online course is a critical introduction to issues of language and society in all aspects of the teaching and learning of the English language. More specifically, it examines the role of linguistic difference in shaping the teaching and learning of English. How do we deal with linguistic and cultural diversity in the classroom? Is multilingualism a problem or a resource in English education? Should the teaching of English aim for native speaker norms?
Teaching English in Multilingual Settings
As the Philippines continues expanding English language education, there is a need to provide quality training for teachers working in linguistically diverse environments. Many Filipino students speak local languages at home before learning English in school, presenting unique challenges for educators. This online class will equip Filipino teachers to effectively support English language development for multilingual learners.
