Mission & Vision
ACELT is one of the leading university-based centers for teacher development in English language and literature teaching in the Philippines.
It seeks to form professionally competent, critical, and culturally rooted teachers, teacher trainers, and educational and school leaders, guided by the principles of Jesuit education.
ACELT programs are designed for teachers of English in multilingual settings who want to develop expertise in teaching and training in the different language skills, as well as in managing and implementing language programs. ACELT programs aim to upgrade the standards in English language and literature education by providing primary, secondary, tertiary teachers, teacher trainers, and educational and school leaders with programs that are based on contextualized approaches to English language teaching, and anchored on recent pedagogical issues and developments in the use of English in the country and the region.
Purpose & Objective
The ACELT exists for the following purposes:
Teacher and Trainer Development - To conduct continuing education and training programs reflecting ACELT principles for language and literature teachers and teacher trainers
Program and Materials Development - To facilitate the design, development and review of ELLT programs and instructional materials that are appropriate and context-based
ELLT Program Management Development - To prepare educational and school leaders to support, monitor, and sustain the implementation of ELLT programs
Research and Publication - To encourage research and publication of both academic and practical papers that impact on language policy, curriculum and instructional materials development and classroom teaching practices
Strategic Partnerships - To establish linkages and partnerships with local, national and international institutions involved in ELLT
