13 Dec 2024 | Deanne Algenio (BS AMDSc)
Team Clarkulators, composed of Deanne Gabrielle Algenio, Vince Dexter Ang, Josh Tiffton Bolipata, Martin Lorenzo Bustos, Atasha Adrienne Garcia, Arabella Isles, Chrislyn Ann Manero, Aaron John Pacis, all from 3 BS AMDSc, alongside Jade Connery Ramos, from 3 BS CS, won Global Runner-up in their track in the SAS Hackathon, a global competition held last October 2024.
Team Clarkulators participated in the “Data for Good: Climate Change and Vulnerable Populations” student track, where they worked with SAS Viya, an analytics platform, to perform exploratory data analysis, geo mapping, and dashboard creation.
Using the provided dataset, the team performed an analysis and highlighted the regions that policymakers should focus on, emphasizing those likely to experience disproportionate effects due to climate change. The team submitted a video summarizing their data analysis and key findings, which was reviewed by the judges as part of the competition.
The SAS Hackathon is an annual global competition where teams use the SAS Viya platform to explore data and propose solutions to global challenges. This year, the competition attracted over 1700 participants from 70 countries. In addition, the new tracks for students enabled various student data researchers to use their abilities for policy-making with the introduction of the aforementioned Data for Good track and Ethical Data Analysis track.
