New donation powers ACELT
20 May 2024 | Cecilia A Suarez, PhD (ACELT Executive Director)
The Ateneo Center for English Language Teaching (ACELT), the outreach Center of the Department of English, School of Humanities, is grateful for the donation that it received from Mr Robertson Kwan Laurel, an alumnus (AB Literature) of Ateneo de Manila University and former CEO of Sunfu Solutions, Inc., a medical equipment company.
As part of its Mission and Vision, ACELT is committed to helping basic and higher education teachers within and outside the Philippines to improve their practices in English language and literature teaching, especially in multilingual settings. With the donation to be utilized starting SY 2024–2025, ACELT will now be able to expand its reach in serving more teachers and other ELT practitioners through new projects like the Adopt-a-School Teacher-Training Program and through sponsorships for them to attend Regular ACELT Workshops, among other means.
This partnership between ACELT and Mr Robertson Kwan Laurel will allow the Center to continue the legacy that its founder, Fr Joseph Galdon, SJ, started more than forty years ago, namely, “to form professionally competent, critical, and culturally rooted teachers, teacher trainers, and educational and school leaders, guided by the principles of Jesuit education.”
