The Ateneo Marketing Varsity (AMV) won first place at the recent ESSEC Case Competition for Future Leaders 2023 held in a hybrid setup online and at ESSEC Asia-Pacific in Singapore on March 4, 2023. The team was led by Arvin Martin Santos (5 BS ITE) and Darren Peter Carandang (4 BS ME), with members Patricia Louise Berbano (4 BS CTM), Beatrice Pilar Luisa Cuizon (3 AB MEC), and Katherine Grace Go (3 BS MGT).
The ESSEC Case Competition provided a unique opportunity for top students across the Asia-Pacific to experience the business school’s learning and teaching methods. Each team, acting as management consultants, was provided with real-life business problems of their partner company. They were asked to identify the core issues and find business solutions. This year, the theme revolved around sustainability and circular economy, in partnership with global sporting goods retailer Decathlon. Additionally, participating teams engaged in workshops on problem-solving, design thinking, sustainability, presentation, and public speaking.
The schools represented across the Asia-Pacific region included ESSEC Asia-Pacific, National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore Management University, University of New South Wales, and University of the Philippines Diliman. Among the 21 selected teams for the two-round competition, the top four finalists presented their solutions to the esteemed panel of judges from Decathlon Singapore’s leadership team.
Ateneo presented a three-phase business strategy that tackled B2B and B2C business models through consumer-driven carbon exchange, production of energy-generating bicycle attachments, and distribution of modular bicycles. The team was awarded 2,000 SGD in prizes, trees planted on behalf of each member, and a personal invitation to visit the Decathlon HQ in Singapore from the CEO.
