SOSE to offer transportation engineering courses

Ateneans will soon be able to learn more about railway engineering.
The School of Science and Engineering (SOSE) has partnered with the Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC), the private operator of LRT-1, to offer elective courses on transportation engineering. These would include two Interdisciplinary electives: an introduction to transportation systems, such as railways, and urban mobility for a broad audience, including non-SOSE majors, and a technical course for Electronics, Computer and Communications Engineering (ECCE) students on transportation with emphasis on railways, aligned with the current tracks of communications, energy, and microelectronics.
According to Dr. Raphael A. Guerrero, Dean of SOSE, the course proposals were developed based on feedback from LRMC during consultations and meetings.
"SOSE is hopeful that these new electives will be available to Ateneo students within the current school year. If the electives generate enough interest, a specialization track on Transportation and Railway Engineering for ECCE could prove viable," Guerrero said. In addition, SOSE engineering majors would have access to LRMC facilities to further student training.
Also in the pipeline are joint ventures to address challenges in the railway industry. Progress is being made to leverage the capabilities of LRMC engineers and SOSE researchers to strengthen and promote technology innovation in transportation engineering.
