AJHS mathletes bag 4 bronzes from SASMO

Ateneo de Manila Junior High School mathletes Xavier Algenio (Montserrat/9-Lewis), Miggy Dugan (Montserrat/8-Ireland), Joaquin Jobog (Montserrat/7-Grimaltos), and Nathan Ballatan (La Storta/7-Collins) emerged as bronze awardees in the Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad (SASMO), which was held online on April 17, 2022. They also received their respective school (Ateneo de Manila Junior High School), country (Philippines), and global rankings.
Xavier was ranked #1 in school and #21 in the country; his global rank is Bronze 22 in the Grade 9 division. Miggy was ranked #1 in school and #21 in the country; his global rank is Bronze #8 in the Grade 8 division. Joaquin was ranked #1 in school and #18 in the country; his global rank is Bronze #7 in the Grade 7 division. Nathan was ranked #2 in school and #22 in the country; his global rank is Bronze #13 in the Grade 7 division.

Created in 2006, SASMO is one of the largest math contests in Asia. It has expanded from 155 participants from Singapore in 2006 to more than 33,600 participants from 28 countries and territories in SASMO 2022. With realistic and high standards, SASMO aims to stretch the untapped thinking potential of mathematically gifted students and improve their higher order thinking skills (HOTS).
