Ylanan wins silver, bronze in 2 English language competitions

Ateneo de Manila Senior High School student Harvey Allen Ylanan (12-Sullivan) won a silver and a bronze award in two English language competitions held earlier this year. The silver was for the “Bee 10” division of the Eurasia Spelling Bee Philippines preliminary round, which was held online on April 25, 2021. The bronze award was for the “Hippo S19” division of the Hippo International English Language Olympiad Philippines preliminary round, which was held online on February 28, 2021.

The Eurasian Spelling Bee promotes Lexical skills in the English language and challenges students from countries where English is taught as a foreign language. It inspires students to read more to encourage them to learn the major principles and patterns of English, expand their vocabulary, and work on their pronunciation. It also enhances the students’ development of poise and communication under pressure.

The Hippo Olympiad is an international competition which promotes the English language, challenges students from around the globe to compete in their knowledge of English, and fosters the development of a shared sense of World identity and integration. It is open to students aged 6 to 19 from all over the world.
