Vice President
Dr Benjamin “Benjie” Gerardo T Tolosa Jr (AB Eco '83) is the current Vice President for Mission Integration.
Dr Tolosa is no stranger to the Ateneo community. Having worked and taught in the University since 1983, Benjie brings with him a wealth of experience as a seasoned faculty and administrator steeped in Jesuit tradition and Ignatian values. Benjie is Professor of Political Science, Development Studies, and Economics. Since 2016, he has served the University as Associate Dean for the Core Curriculum overseeing the development, implementation, and evaluation of the undergraduate core curriculum – the heart of Ateneo Education. Dr Tolosa was chair of the Political Science Department (2001-2007), and founding Director of the Development Studies Program (1987-1994). He was also a Senior Fellow and Project Director of the Pugadlawin Political Education and Engagement for Democratization Project of the Ateneo School of Government (2008-2015). Among his fields of interest in teaching are international political economy, global governance, and the politics of development.
Benjie holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Minnesota, US (2001), an MA in Development Studies from the University of East Anglia, UK (1987), and an AB in Economics (Honors Program), Magna Cum Laude, from Ateneo de Manila University (1983).
Mission and Social Development Updates
40 Days of Lent: Day 13
"These days of Lent, may we find ourself defining this middle, our journey, the life we have been given with love. This must lead to a realization of what has been done for us and what we do. What acts of love have you received? What acts of love have you done? What acts of love can you choose?"
40 Days of Lent: Day 14
"It is one hope of our heart that we may find, recognize and keep those who can walk with us in this life. And the Father, Son and Spirit fulfill this desire for they always send us love through persons who become our angels, helpers and guides."
40 Days of Lent: Day 15
"The narrative of Christ’s passion reaches a peak when we are told he breathed his last. We know that with this, death came to Jesus, though not to claim him forever. For us, his last breath meant our new life. Because of this sacrifice, we can allow ourself to be enlivened by the breaths we take. "
