BS Mathematics (BS MA)

The BS Mathematics program is designed to give students a competitive edge in our society by providing a solid foundation in pure mathematics such as algebra, analysis, geometry, and combinatorics. It is complemented with exposure to the applications of mathematics in the areas of actuarial science, operations research, statistics, and mathematical computing and modeling. Students enrolled in this program are also given the opportunity to participate in the research endeavors of the faculty of the Department of Mathematics.

The Ideal BS Mathematics graduate aims for excellence through the pursuit of truth, grounded in sound scientific principles. He uses science, technology and research in the service of the Philippine society and the world. The graduate exemplifies the Ignatioan core values, uses technical competencies to understand and analyse problems, and make sound decisions.

The BS Mathematics program supports the University’s strategic thrust in that it aims to provide the balance between the holistic formation of the core curriculum and the specialized training in the mathematical sciences. The central importance given to the liberal arts, interdisciplinarity, experiential service-learning, and formation in Ignatian spirituality is a particular mark of the Jesuit identity of the Ateneo. The goal is that through an education that seeks to develop intellectual depth, creative imagination, social involvement, and spiritual maturity, students are able to discover and fulfil their distinctive calling and mission in life.
