ALLC Scholarship
The Scholarship aims to provide financial support to new students who want to take the graduate programs of the Department of English (DOE).
A. Selection of scholars
To be eligible for the scholarship, the applicant must:
- not already have a Master’s or Doctoral degree;
- pass the admission process of the Ateneo Graduate Education;
- not have an existing scholarship other than the 50% discount given by the OAVPGE;
- be 45 years old or younger at the time of application;
- be a Filipino citizen;
- be currently employed in a public or private school in the Philippines and teaching for at least one year;
- be in good health condition;
- be in real need for financial assistance;
- show dedication to the English Studies profession and intent to continue on after degree completion;
- show great potential as an educator.
Applicants must submit the following documents (in addition to the admissions requirements):
- filled out scholarship application form;
- proof of exemplary work record such as awards, honors, recognition;
- health certificate signed by any qualified physician
- Photocopy of the latest BIR Form 2316
B. Coverage of the scholarship
The scholarship will cover the tuition and fees, including the thesis and dissertation writing stages -- two years for full-time students, and three years for part-time students. This scholarship is in addition to the 50% tuition fee discount that Ateneo gives to teachers and academicians. A one-year extension may be granted under exceptional circumstances, subject to the approval of the Scholarship Committee.
C. Conditions of the scholarship
- Awardees can not accept another scholarship (except for the 50% Scholarship given by the University) or assistantship administered by the University while their scholarship is in effect.
- Awardees shall enroll for the semester immediately following the examination in which they qualified. No deferment shall be allowed except for substantial and valid reasons and only upon the approval of the Chair of DOE.
- Except for unusual circumstances and with the proper permission of the Chair of DOE, awardees shall enroll for at least 6 units each semester. To qualify for a renewal of the scholarship, the awardees must:
- not have a grade of F, W, WP;
- remove the INC grade before the following registration period;
- not have been the subject of a disciplinary action.
- Awardees shall conduct relevant research for ALLC either as a course paper or as thesis/capstone/dissertation project and (a) present this in a conference and/or (b) publish this in a peer-reviewed journal. This research may be submitted as the publication requirement of the degree program.
- During their study, awardees shall submit a yearly report of how they have been able to introduce innovations in their respective teaching or professional contexts or other institutions.
- In case an awardee fails to meet any of the above conditions, the award of scholarship shall be terminated.
D. Deferment of Scholarship
If for any substantial and valid reason duly found by the Chairperson of the Department, a scholar shall be unable to enroll for a semester or for a longer period, their right to the scholarship shall be deferred until they are able to begin or resume their studies.
Robert Southwell Scholarship Fund
A. Eligibility
- Must be at the capstone/thesis writing stage
- With a grade of at least B in all subjects
- Within the residency term limit
- Not a current scholar
B. Conditions
- Should defend the capstone/thesis within the semester/school year
- Should submit the final manuscript within the semester of the defense
C. Requirements
- Letter of request indicating the need for a scholarship.
- Current transcript of records indicating the courses taken
