CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: Training Coordinator

Unit: Ateneo Policy Center - School of Government (APC-ASOG)

Duration: Six Months (project-based)

 

I. Brief Description 

The Ateneo School of Government is the public policy academic arm of the Ateneo de Manila University. Its long-term mission is to teach and work with effective and ethical public servants to build prosperous, sustainable, just, and happy communities in the Philippines, empowered by democratic, participatory, transparent, and accountable governance institutions and processes. Through its research and extension programs, and its work with public, private and civil society organizations, ASOG aims to develop and foster innovative ideas and approaches in order to change mindsets and systems in such areas as leadership, poverty eradication, climate change, social accountability, and politics.

Political Participation for Greater Electoral Integrity, otherwise known as PARTICIPATE, is a five-year program implemented by ASOG in partnership with the La Salle Institute of Governance (LSIG), National Citizens’ Movement for Free Elections (NAMFREL), and Caucus of Development NGO Networks (CODE-NGO). PARTICIPATE aims to increase and enhance non-partisan political participation by the citizenry and civil society organizations in government-administered national and local electoral processes as an essential element of true democratic governance. It advances political participation in elections through three interrelated objectives: 1) bolster citizen oversight of electoral processes, 2) increase the availability and accessibility of information to promote informed voting, and 3) support constituency-building for electoral reforms.


II. Scope of Work

The Training Coordinator will be part of the Strengthening Political Parties (SPP) in the Philippines Program under the Ateneo School of Government – PARTICIPATE. The post is full-time and will be based at the Ateneo School of Government. Specifically, the Training Coordinator is expected to:

  1. Take an active role in designing, planning, and implementing training events and activities under the Academy of Multi-party Democracy;
  2. Coordinate with training team, participants, and other stakeholders of PARTICIPATE especially in the SPP Program;
  3. Review and assist in preparing program materials such as video or visual presentations, marketing and advocacy materials, training aids, and other materials for public dissemination;   
  4. Coordinate logistical and administrative arrangements for activities such as training, forums, workshops, and other public events;
  5. Take an active role in the marketing and information dissemination of the SPP Program;
  6. Ensure that training and other program events are undertaken efficiently and effectively;
  7. Be actively involved in delivery and implementation of PARTICIPATE – SPP activities especially in the Academy of Multi-Party Democracy;   
  8. Assist participants especially with their concerns in training and other program events or activities;
  9. Coordinate the procurement and distribution of training kits and other activity materials;
  10. Coordinate arrangements and agreements on events or activities such as venue, food, accommodation, and other logistical items.    
  11. Supervise training and events documenters ensuring the high quality of reports and outputs;
  12. Ensure the proper and good quality of post-activity documentation or report submission after the conduct of events and activities;
  13. Prepare a completion report by the end of the Program; 
  14. Attend meetings as needed and as required by the program management; and
  15. Perform other related functions as may be assigned by the program management.

 

III. Qualifications

The Training Coordinator must have the following: 

  1. Has an undergraduate degree in political Science or public administration or development studies or any other related course; units in graduate study or a graduate degree is an advantage.  
  2. Familiarity and experience in working with political parties or in a politically-oriented organization or project in the Philippines is an advantage. 
  3. Is aware of the political and electoral situation in the Philippines.
  4. Has at least four years of relevant work experience in designing, coordinating, facilitating, evaluating, and conducting training programs, workshops, conferences, forums, and other the types of learning event.
  5. Flexible, able to handle work pressure, and still able to deliver good quality outputs;
  6. Able to work with people from different background, culture, and political beliefs. 
  7. Able to handle and resolve work-related situations with minimal supervision. 
  8. Has good oral and written communication skills at least in Filipino and in English.
  9. Is organized, able to multi-task, and with high attention to details.
  10. Able to work independently and at the same time work with a team contributing to the team processes and outputs.
  11. Experience in working on projects of international donor agencies and similar organizations as well as in writing briefings or reports on technical information is an advantage.
