After months of intensive training, quizzes, and team selection tests, Ateneo de Manila Senior High School (ASHS) student Nathan Neria of 11-Moscoso has been chosen as one of the six mathletes who will represent the Philippines in the 66th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO). Described as “the largest and most prestigious of the international Olympiads,” the 66th IMO will be held in Sunshine Coast, Australia, from 10–20 July 2025.

The process which culminated in Nathan’s selection began on 23 November 2024, when he was one of five ASHS mathletes who did well enough in the Philippine Mathematical Olympiad (PMO) to advance to the Area Stage. On 25 January 2025, these five ASHS students competed in the Area Stage, with Nathan being the only Atenean to qualify for the National Stage competition which was held on 8-9 March 2025. Although Nathan did not place in the final ranking, he earned a medal and secured a coveted spot as one of the Top 20 National Finalists, granting him the opportunity to participate in the Mathematical Olympiad Summer Camp (MOSC).
Organized by the Mathematical Society of the Philippines (MSP) in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology – Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI), the MOSC announced the country’s chosen representatives for the 66th IMO on 27 April 2025.
Nathan was guided up to the PMO National Stage by Christian Galope of the ASHS Math Subject Area.
