AIS and GIZ inked a partnership to promote climate change education

The ASEAN University Network on Ecological Education and Culture (AUN-EEC), housed at the Ateneo Institute of Sustainability (AIS), signed a memorandum of understanding with Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH to work on South-South Collaboration on Climate Information and Services (SS-CIS).
Spanning through 2025, the partnership will focus on knowledge-sharing in climate information and climate change communication through various activities. The aim of both parties is to strengthen public engagement on climate change action by devising methodologies to communicate the science in a more accessible way to the various audiences.
In particular, AUN-EEC and GIZ will collaborate on hybrid events related to climate change education, including:
- A talk called “Temperature Check: Not just a weather talk”, happening on 30 April 2025. Interested participants can register via https://bit.ly/2025AUNEEC_TempCheck
- The 6th AUN-EEC Conference on Ecological Education and Culture, scheduled for 27-29 August 2025. Call for abstracts will be released soon.
- A workshop called “Business within Boundaries: A Multi-Stakeholder and Systems Approach”, co-organized by Australian National University (ANU), tentatively scheduled for November 2025.
The MOU signing was attended by Dr Nicole Kranz, GIZ Principal Advisor and Cluster Coordinator for Climate Action and Disaster Risk management Cluster, Mr Jimmy Loro, GIZ Chief Advisor for SSCIS, and members of SSCIS team Mr Rune Ylade, Ms Mye Velasquez, and Ms Johanna Camasura. Meanwhile, Ateneo was represented by Vice President for Mission Integration Dr Benjamin Tolosa, Assistant Vice President for SEEDS Dr Leland dela Cruz, AIS Director and AUN-EEC Executive Director Dr Emmanuel Delocado, AIS Program Head for Sustainable Development Goals and AUN-EEC Secretariat Head Ms Chris Lacdao, and members of AUN-EEC Secretariat team Mr Daniel Ratilla and Mr Mark Herrera.
