ASHS girls are senior division champs of 'Breaking Barriers, Building Bridges' Hackathon
19 Mar 2025
The team of Ateneo de Manila Senior High School (ASHS) Grades 11 & 12 ProgVar students Julia Joaquin (12-Pro), Soph Cruz (11-Brebeuf), Kel Ramos (11 San Vitores), and Yonna Bombeo (11-Tsuji) was named senior division Champion of the Breaking Barriers, Building Bridges Hackathon on Saturday, 15 March 2025. The Ateneans won for their Bantay Juana app, which promotes women’s safety by enabling its user to quickly contact authorities during an emergency situation, by informing the user how safe a particular area/location is, and more.

Held in line with the celebration of International Women's Month, the hackathon was organized by The Purposeful Mochii & Accenture, attracting over 200 participants. The final round was held at Accenture Cybergate Tower 2 in Mandaluyong, with teams from Ateneo de Manila SHS, University of San Carlos, De La Salle Santiago Zobel, iAcademy, University of Makati, and Assumption College of San Lorenzo as finalists. Each team was given five minutes to present its project pitch, which was then followed by a Q&A.
Accompanying the Ateneans to the finals was their ProgVar moderator, Ms. Nona Fernandez of the ASHS Computer subject area.
This title win by a team of lady Ateneans from the ProgVar org is a back-to-back feat, with ASHS also winning the championship in March 2024.
