Bangkok, Thailand – 24-26 January 2025

The Urban Futures & Policy Research Unit (UFP) at Thammasat University, in collaboration with START International and the Educational Partnerships for Innovation in Communities Network (EPIC-N), is hosting the International Workshop on Climate-Proof and Inclusive Cities, Urban Planning & Architecture. The event will bring together urban planners, policymakers, and community leaders to explore innovative strategies for addressing climate challenges in urban settings. Among the notable speakers is Prof Dr Emma Porio from the School of Social Sciences-Department of Socio-Anthropology, Ateneo de Manila University, who will share her expertise on inclusive climate adaptation and low-carbon urban development.

The workshop features a distinguished lineup of speakers from across the globe:

Assoc Prof Dr Wijitbusaba Marome (Thammasat University), Dr Jon Padgham (START International), Somsook Boonyabancha (Asian Coalition for Housing Rights), and Prof Dr. Jeffrey Hou (NUS, Singapore). Other esteemed speakers include Dr Nuwong Chollacoop (Thailand), Mr Louie Robert C Posadas (TAMPEI, Philippines), and Mr Khondaker Hasibul Kabin (BRAC), Prof Dr Joel Rogers (University of Wisconsin-Madison), Asst Prof Dr Perrine Hamel (Nanyang Technological University), and Dr Wolfgang Scholz (TU Durtmond University).

Prof Dr Porio, lead proponent of Coastal Cities At Risk Philippines, has focused her work on local and community-based solutions, and resilience to climate change.

This event is hosted by START International and co-hosted by organizations such as the Community Organization Development Institute (CODI), Nanyang Technological University, and the Asian Coalition for Housing Rights.
