In celebration of October Pride Month, Ateneo de Manila University hosted a series of activities aimed at promoting gender inclusivity within its community. These events seek to deepen understanding of diverse perspectives and foster a space for open dialogue and meaningful change.
As part of these initiatives, the Ateneo School of Government held a special lecture on 16 October 2024, titled “Developing Inclusive Communication Skills: Techniques for Effective and Respectful Interaction.” Atty Earl Guen Quiñones Padayao, Associate Attorney at Gulapa Law shared the brief history and significance of Pride Month in advocating for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and queer (LGBTQ+) inclusivity. He also introduced various inclusive communication techniques, from language sensitivity to gender-neutral phrasing.
The session concluded with an open forum, allowing participants to share questions and explore practical ways to apply inclusive communication in their respective work. This lecture was designed to help the Ateneo School of Government (ASOG) become more attuned for better inclusivity and sensitivity among its activities.
