Grade 11 violinist Raeka Raquel wins multiple awards for PH in Singapore Music Competition

Representing the Philippines, violinist Raeka Raquel and her classmates from Camp Jam Performing Arts School won several awards in the recent 2024 Music Singapore International Competition.

An Ateneo de Manila Senior High School student from the class of 11-Hurtado, Raeka won the following awards: 1st Prize (Category Q), Marahuyo String Quartet; 1st Prize (Category R), String Duo; and 3rd Prize (Category G), ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) Grade 3-4. ABRSM is the exam board of the Royal Schools of Music, which delivers over 650,000 music exams and assessments every year in 93 countries.
The Philippines was represented in the competition by students of Camp Jam Performing Arts School, who bested over 800 violin and piano participants from more than 15 countries in the event, which was held from 13-16 August 2024 at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore.
The students (and parents) of the Philippine Delegation also had a chance to meet the Philippine Envoy to Singapore, Ambassador Medardo Macaraig, in a courtesy call at the Philippine Embassy in Singapore on 12 August 2024.
Now in its 4th year, Music Singapore hopes to expand its presence as a premier music competition in Asia. As part of its expansion and growth, the organizers changed its name to Music Singapore International Competition in 2024. The Music Singapore International Competition aims to discover, support, develop and promote musicians who are talented in piano, violin, jazz and pop, ensemble (duet, strings and choir) from all over the world by providing an accessible platform for them to showcase their musicianship. Per its website, “Music Singapore believes it can bridge a strong bond between music talents from Singapore and the rest of the world, bringing the music community closer together” through the competition.
