Inspiring innovative leadership through game-based learning
23 Jun 2025 | Eleanore L Teo
In a world dominated by advanced technology that has increased efficiency in learning but has also resulted in diminishing attention spans and engagement, the concept of Game-Based Learning (GBL) has proven to be an effective method to encourage active participation and deeper critical thinking.
The Ateneo Intellectual Property Office (AIPO) will be offering an Innovative Leadership Workshop using this very approach to develop key collaborative problem-solving skills and adaptability in various management situations. The workshop will be held on 12 July 2025 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Eduardo J Aboitiz Sandbox Zone in Areté, Ateneo de Manila University, and we invite aspiring entrepreneurs, professionals, as well as students looking to strengthen their proficiency in managing teams, to join us for this event.
The objectives of the workshop center around increasing awareness and understanding of innovation leadership principles, improving one’s teamwork and decision-making abilities, and strengthening one’s communication and collaboration skills. The program will introduce innovation leadership concepts through interactive and experiential learning activities – demonstrating the effectiveness of board games as a tool for fostering teamwork and reinforcement of theory through practical application.
Some of these board games include
- Catan (resource management)
- The Resistance of Avalon (negotiation and decision-making skills),
- Pandemic (crisis management), and
- Power Grid (competitive analysis).
Discover your own capacity to lead within an immersive and engaging environment as this rapidly evolving world demands unique and innovative ways to inspire ambition and proactiveness in the workplace.
