AJHS mathlete Paco Javier wins top prize at World Math Invitational Finals

Representing the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila Junior High School mathlete Paco Javier (8-Claver) was awarded the prestigious “Star of the World” award and the sought-after Diamond medal in the Grade 7 division of the recent World Mathematics Invitational (WMI) Final Round 2024 held in Malaysia. The “Star of the World” trophy is reserved for each participating country’s top scorer, while the Diamond medal is awarded to competitors who are among the top 3%. The awards not only bring honor to Paco’s school and country, they also underscore his exceptional mathematical abilities and place him in the company of elite young mathletes worldwide.

The World Mathematics Invitational (WMI) is a renowned international competition founded in Taiwan that brings together organizations and institutes from all corners of the globe that are dedicated to the promotion and popularization of mathematics. By giving math enthusiasts from participating countries a platform for meaningful interaction, these WMI contestants ultimately benefit as a result of their experience of diverse cultures and the broadening of their worldviews.
This year, 21 teams from countries such as Australia, Bahrain, Bulgaria, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Iran, Macau, Malaysia, Mongolia, Pakistan, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkiye, Ukraine and Vietnam joined the WMI Final Round 2024, which was held from 12-16 July 2024 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
