AJHS community urged during Assumption Mass to proclaim God’s love through magnanimous deeds

The Ateneo de Manila Junior High School (AJHS) community celebrated the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary beginning at 6:45 am on 15 August 2024 in the St Stanislaus Kostka Chapel. Fr Jonjee Sumpaico SJ, Vice President for Basic Education, was the Mass presider.

Per the Catholic News Agency website, the Assumption is a “significant feast day” which “recalls the spiritual and physical departure of the mother of Jesus Christ from the earth, when both her soul and her body were taken into the presence of God.”

In his homily, Fr Jonjee quoted in Filipino Mary’s immortal line from the Magnificat: “Ang puso ko’y nagpupuri sa Panginoon…nagagalak ang aking espiritu sa ‘king Tagapagligtas.” He then invited the community to proclaim God’s goodness and generosity by performing magnanimous deeds in their lives, as Mary did throughout hers. “Ipakita natin sa ating mga gawa kung papaano tayo ay nagpupuri, kung papaano ang ating mga puso ay patuloy na nagbibigay ng galak. Sapagkat (habang) tayo ay andito sa ating paglalakbay, tayo ay binibiyayaan ng Panginoon ng maraming bagay,” he concluded.
