JAPAN – Local governments have authorized an educational app provider to directly access and manage public school students' personal data. The data collected from devices distributed to students was supposedly sent to foreign companies without informing the parents or guardians. The breach may have compromised various information including, health details and Social Security numbers. UK – Chelmer Valley High School has been reprimanded by the UK’s data protection regulator for using facial recognition technology without obtaining proper consent from students. US – New Jersey City University experienced a ransomware attack potentially compromising the personal and financial data of its students and staff.
