On 24 to 26 July 2024, the Ateneo Intellectual Property Office (AIPO) took part in the first-ever Trademark Conference Philippines 2024, held at the SMX Convention Center Aura in Taguig City. Organized by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL), the event gathered key trademark stakeholders from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and IPOPHL, brand owners, legal experts from various IP firms, and innovators from private sectors and universities. With the theme “Leveraging Trademarks Beyond Branding”, the conference aimed to discuss and explore the evolving landscape of trademarks and their strategic importance in modern business and across various sectors.

The three-day event featured a series of insightful presentations, plenary discussions, and networking opportunities. Simultaneous sessions in different meeting rooms delved into topics related to those in the plenary sessions. The plenary sessions themselves covered navigating the global, regional, and Philippine trademark ecosystems; exploring the Madrid e-Filing system and revised regulations; and mapping reinforcement strategies across various domains. The conference also covered administrative adjudication of cases and alternative dispute resolution; unlocking trademark potential through valuation and commercialization strategies; and concluded with success stories of trademark valuation and commercialization.

Among the distinguished speakers was Ms Vanessa Malapit MSc, the Head of Protection and Education of AIPO. In her presentation, she shared compelling success stories of Ateneo's Trademark Commercialization and Licensing efforts highlighting how Ateneo has effectively leveraged its trademarks to generate revenue, enhance brand value, and support research and innovation.

AIPO’s presence underscored their commitment to fostering intellectual property awareness and providing support to entrepreneurs, researchers, and startups. The conference offered a platform for AIPO to showcase its services, initiatives, and successes in trademark management and commercialization.

As an exhibitor, AIPO highlighted its services designed to help entrepreneurs and researchers protect and monetize their intellectual property. Attendees were able to learn about AIPO's efforts in increasing IP awareness among entrepreneurs and researchers, as well as their initiatives in extending support to external partners, including other universities and startups.
