Areté hosts creative camp for young game designers
31 May 2024 | Eleanore L Teo

The Eugenio Lopez Jr Makerspace, in collaboration with the Ateneo Laboratory for the Learning Sciences (ALLS), is excited to host “Ludocracy: The Art and Science of Board Game Design” - its first creative camp for young innovators that will equip them with the knowledge and skills needed to craft their own original board games. The five-day intensive workshop will run from 8 to 12 July 2024, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, each day, and is open to teens from any school between the ages of 13-17 years old.
All participants will have the opportunity to learn the principles of game design - from brainstorming ideas and developing compelling mechanics to playtesting - from Marco de Santos, the lead developer for Level 99 Games. They will be given the tools needed to bring their concepts to life with the help of Makerspace, Areté’s digital laboratory for creative engagement.
Ludocracy aims to provide a collaborative and immersive experience that will also allow its young gaming architects to pitch their new board games to industry professionals and receive valuable feedback in return. This creative camp will encourage imaginative thinking, enhance problem-solving skills, and foster a fun and educational environment alongside like-minded peers.
Early bird registration is now open for interested attendees with a fee of P5,000.00 to secure a slot for this camp, after which regular registration will cost P5,500.00 per participant. Workshops will be held on the 3rd Floor of the Learning and Innovation Wing at Areté, Ateneo de Manila University. Early bird registration is until 15 June 2024.
