Ateneo launches its Climate Action Plan
27 May 2024
Ateneo de Manila University is taking a significant step towards sustainability by launching its Climate Action Plan (CAP). This initiative aims to combat climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting clean energy solutions.
The CAP will serve as a comprehensive roadmap, outlining principles, guidelines, activities, and targets for mitigating climate change drivers and adapting to climate hazards. It will chart Ateneo's path to carbon neutrality by 2030, aligning with the university's vision to be a force for good in seeking innovative and sustainable solutions.
Led by former President Fr Jose Ramon T Villarin SJ, a Core Working Group (CWG) has been formed to develop the CAP. The group, which comprises experts from various disciplines, including energy management and sociology, will define the plan's scope and contents, outline specific goals and milestones, and establish mechanisms for monitoring progress.
In collaboration with stakeholders, including faculty, students, and staff, Ateneo aims to craft a Climate Action Plan that reflects its commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship. The university invites the community to actively engage and contribute to this vital initiative, paving the way for a more resilient and sustainable future.
