Now or Never - final

Sustainable Development Solutions Network Philippines (SDSN PH), hosted at the Ateneo Institute of Sustainability, is partnering with the SDSN networks of Southeast Asia, Thailand, and Malaysia for the first installment of the webinar series on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).

Education concerns us all. Yet many countries struggle to transform legacy educational structures to respond to evolving demands of the future. Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand have all taken bold steps to transform their education systems, recognizing that marginal improvements will not do. Transformation, however, requires the complex mix of political will, financing, curricular and pedagogical changes, teacher capacity-building, in-school and community support systems, and perhaps, most important of all, mindset shifts.

This webinar is a first in a series that will navigate the multifaceted themes in transformational education through ESD. This first installment will examine progress made on ESD implementation in each country, with particular emphasis on opportunities unique in each country that can be leveraged upon. What will success look like? What more needs to be done, and more importantly, how can it be done?

Dark skies over the Ateneo de Manila University campus in Quezon City, Philippines, forebode possible rain. During the “Habagat” or southwest monsoon season from July to September, rains over the western Philippines can be exacerbated by tropical cyclones far to the east of the country that don’t even make landfall.
