Explaining the theme and logo for AJHS' Social Involvement Program (SIP) Week

14 Mar 2024

THE THEME

"PAGLILINGKURAN SINUMAN": Highlighting the importance of the Act of Volunteerism and Equality in the works of social involvement.

As the AJHS continues to reflect on the theme Persons for Others: Zeal to Love and Serve at the Peripheries, the CSIP would like to deepen this by giving emphasis on the importance of the act of volunteerism and equality in this year’s SIP Week. “PAGLILINGKURAN SINUMAN” is this year’s SIP Week theme which highlights the premise to becoming a true person for others, which is unconditional love and service. Furthermore, it’s also meant to highlight the use of one’s freedom and privilege, as seen in our students’ commitment to their CSIP off-campus activities despite being voluntary. Thus, such courage must be sustained and extended further by doing volunteer work outside the bounds of school-initiated activities that benefit those in the peripheries. This also aims to highlight the openness of our partner areas to volunteer themselves to help by letting our students enter their lives and, in the process, indirectly break social barriers and promote equality.

THE LOGO

1. Washing of the feet

Jesus’ washing the feet of his disciples is a powerful and radical example of humility and service. Jesus, inspite of his role as a teacher and a leader, kneels down and carries out the job of a slave to remind his disciples of the level of service that he hopes to see in others. Though paradoxical at first glance, Jesus’ example reminds us that authentic power is found in choosing service and volunteerism, regardless of status, race, faith.

2. Image of St. Joseph

This is to commemorate the Feast Day of St. Joseph who played an important role in the formation of Jesus. Placing him in the background symbolizes his quiet but palpable presence in Jesus’ acts while he walked this earth.

3. Ripples in the basin

This symbolizes that our actions can impact the people around us and hopefully our society as a whole. A positive action in one area can influence other areas, sparking a chain reaction that may lead to social transformation.

4. Purple background

Symbolic of Lent

5. Stained glass

A common motif in our churches which the faithful call home
