Lenten Reflection: Wish Upon The Cross

We are beings of desires. From the smallest ones like what we want to eat to deep yearnings such as the kind of life we long to have, we cannot help ourselves from wanting, aspiring and wishing. Perhaps that is why there are many tips on where we can express our hopes with a view of making them come true. Wish on a falling star. Wish on a four-leaf clover. Wish on an eyelash. Wish the first time you visit a church.

Nothing is too silly for us to do if we are holding desires in our heart. But we do not even have to go to great lengths to mention what we are hoping for. The cross is present, ready to receive our petitions and intentions. In fact, it already stands to symbolize that we have already been granted what we wish for, whether we say it or not: care, salvation, love. And when we approach the cross, we are not whispering our requests to inattentive and inanimate ears. For the Lord crucified always hears us and acts on our prayers in the best ways and in good time.

We can be bold with our desiring. We may also feel timid expressing what we want. Wherever and however we are, the Father understands. He knows what we hope for and provides for all that we need. So we can go ahead and wish upon the cross, with full assurance that we are heard and accepted. What do you desire at this point in your life? How can God help you in this journey? Where can He make a difference in you?
