A Safe Space for Lactating Mothers in ASHS
21 Mar 2023
The Lactation Room, the most child-friendly room in the Ateneo de Manila Senior High School campus, was blessed and launched on Friday, March 17, 2023, as part of the celebration of Women’s Month. The facility is a collaboration of ASHS Health Services, the ASHS Gender Development Committee, the Office of the Assistant Principal for Administration, and the University Gender and Development (GAD) Office.

Chaplain Fr. Bong M. Dahunan S.J. led the blessing of the new facility, while Principal Noel Miranda and Assistant Principal for Administration Czel Lacson cut the ribbon. Following this, Dr. Marge Santos, School Physician, explained the benefits of breastfeeding. To conclude the program, Dr. Melissa Lao, Director of the University Gender and Development office, emphasized the Lactation Room’s significance as a safe space for our mother employees to comfortably express their breast milk in private.

Having a lactation room on campus is a concrete effort of the ASHS community to support gender inclusivity and gender responsiveness. Located in Room 112B of the ASHS Building, the facility can be used by all lactating mothers, whether they are members of the ASHS community or visitors.
