Joshua Gonzalez wins silver in SASMO

Ateneo de Manila Grade School mathletes Joshua Gonzalez (4-Rajah Matanda), Daniel Canaria (4-Maniago), and recent graduate AJ Capito (6-Pignatelli) emerged as medal and honorable mention awardees in the Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad (SASMO), which was held online on April 17, 2022. They also received their respective school (Ateneo de Manila Grade School), country (Philippines) and global rankings.
Silver awardee Joshua was ranked #1 in school and #9 in the country; his global rank is Silver #270 in the Grade 4 division. Bronze awardee Daniel was ranked #2 in school and #16 in the country; his global rank is Bronze #258 in the Grade 4 division. Honorable mention awardee AJ was ranked #1 in school and #33 in the country; his global rank is Honorable Mention #25 in the Grade 6 division.

Created in 2006, SASMO is one of the largest math contests in Asia. It has expanded from 155 participants from Singapore in 2006 to more than 33,600 participants from 28 countries and territories in SASMO 2022. With realistic and high standards, SASMO aims to stretch the untapped thinking potential of mathematically gifted students and improve their higher order thinking skills (HOTS).
