UNITED STATES – The New York City Education Department reported a hacking incident earlier this year of a widely-used online grading and attendance system which compromised the personal data of around 820,000 current and former students of the City’s public school system. NEWS | Proposed compromise on France’s Digital Services Act seeks to protect minors’ data

FRANCE – In consideration of the European Parliament’s position on children’s protection, the French Presidency of the European Council has proposed a compromise on the Digital Services Act. The proposal includes provisions protecting minors, sensitive data including religious beliefs and race. A specific provision that bans large online platforms from having their ads target minors states that processing additional information to determine a user’s age should be prohibited. READ MORE

NEWS | Japanese healthcare firm left images of 12,000 patients exposed to public

JAPAN – Cybersecurity experts discovered a misconfigured cloud storage that belongs to the online medical consultation platform, Doctors Me. The storage contained more than 300,000 image files which impacted at least 12,000 patients. NEWS | Cap on fines set at 5 Million in the updated draft NPC Circular

PHILIPPINES – An online public hearing conducted on March 22 discussed proposed changes to the Circular on Administrative Fines for the DPA. One of the provisions the NPC is seeking to introduce is a five (5) million-peso limit to the total imposable fine for any violation arising from a single act.
