21 Feb 2022
Ateneo de Manila University played host to the Spanish ambassador to the Philippines last Tuesday, 15 February 2022, highlighting the long-standing relationship between the Ateneo Art Gallery and the Embassy of Spain in the Philippines.
Spanish Ambassador to the Philippines Jorge Moragas was welcomed to the Ateneo Art Gallery (AAG) by Fr Roberto Yap SJ, University President, and Ma Victoria “Boots” Herrera, Director and Chief Curator of the AAG, where he visited the ongoing exhibit “Muntadas: Exercises on Past and Present Memories.”
Yap and Herrera guided Moragas through the AAG galleries in the Arts wing of the Arete, where they viewed the installations by Spanish artist Antoni Muntadas, considered as one of the pioneers of multimedia installations and urban interventions.
Moragas’s visit is part of the long-standing partnership between the AAG and the Embassy of Spain, particularly in bringing artists, curators, and exhibits from Spain to the Philippines.
The Ateneo Art Gallery’s collaborations with the Embassy of Spain began in 2017 in the form of sponsorship of visits by curators and artists from Spain. The Muntadas exhibit, which has been in the works since 2019, is just the latest in this ongoing collaboration.
"Muntadas: Exercises on Past and Present Memories" is the first exhibition of renowned conceptual artist Antoni Muntadas in Manila. The exhibit is a collaboration between the AAG and the Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo de Sevilla (CAAC), with the support of the Embassy of Spain in the Philippines.
The AAG exhibit is Muntadas’s first in Manila. His exhibit at the AAG was launched last 24 November 2021, and will run until 12 March 2022. It will then be brought to the CAAC in Spain, where it will be on view from March until August 2022.
The exhibit can be viewed onsite, as well as online. Visit the Ateneo Art Gallery website for more details.
