PHILIPPINES – The National Privacy Commission’s 4th Privacy Awareness Week Awards named the children’s learning material titled, “Safe Space: A Kid’s Guide to Data Privacy” as the Privacy Initiative of 2021. The 60-page activity book published by CANVAS aims to educate Filipino kids on how to safely use and enjoy the internet. It covers various topics such as creating secure passwords, surfing the internet safely, and protecting personal information online among others. READ MORE

UNITED KINGDOM – Over thirty six percent (36%) of workers on work from home arrangements claim to have picked up bad security behaviors, potentially putting their employers at risk. According to the new study, it was revealed that many staff found security workarounds since working remotely. Thirty percent (30%) of the respondents said they feel like they can get away with the riskier behavior at home with forty nine percent (49%) of them claiming that it’s because they think they are not being monitored by IT. PHILIPPINES – Following a supposedly “significant milestone” in the fight for accountability in the Administration’s drug war, the Philippine National Police (PNP) narrows its data sharing agreement with the Department of Justice (DOJ) due to President Duterte’s concerns on national security. PNP chief General Guillermo Eleazar said they would only share for now 53 cases out of the earlier promised 7,884 drug suspects who died in police anti-drug operations. READ MORE
NEWS | 9 fake PhilSys sites and service providers identified

DAVAO – As the lead implementer of Philippine Identification System (PhilSys), the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) identified nine (9) fake sites and service providers in a recent advisory. PSA advised the public not to link or transact with the named sites in the PhilSys registration process as it will put in danger their personal information. The fake sites and pages reportedly ask payment from registrants in which PSA reiterated that PhilSys registration is free of charge. READ MORE
NEWS | 1Sambayan volunteer app 1Sama Ako hit by data breach

PHILIPPINES – The 1Sama Ako, an app of opposition coalition 1Sambayan for volunteer sign-ups was hit by a data breach. Lawyer Howard Calleja, one of the convenors said that they learned about the hack on June 12 at 4:30 pm during their program. Calleja said that they reported the hack to the National Privacy Commission which required any entity collecting data to report possible user data breaches within 72 hours after discovering the hack. The app remains offline until the audits and tests are complete. READ MORE
