Quantitative Methods & Information Technology

John Gokongwei School of Management

Body

Welcome to the Department of Quantitative Methods and Information Technology, John Gokongwei School of Management

The Quantitative Methods and Information Technology department houses two sub-units.

The ‘Quantitative Methods’ unit helps prepare students with their future careers as managers through equipping them with essential quantitative tools and methods.  Our department offers applied quantitative courses such as business statistics, quantitative research methods, production/operations management and operations research.  These courses aim to prepare management students to be comfortable in using quantitative methods as part of their business decision making processes.

The ‘Information Technology’ unit helps propel the students with the necessary skills to be comfortable in the domain of Information Technology.  Our array of courses includes a primary course in business software applications, computer programming, IT Fundamentals, business process re-engineering, information engineering and many more.  These courses aim to train students to effectively use computers and information technology to their business advantage. Our department prepares future managers to be aware and to be prepared in utilizing technology for further improving business processes and better business decision making.

Mission Statement

It is the mission of the QMIT Department to provide JGSOM students leading edge education in the science and art of data-driven decision making. We do this through interdisciplinary, innovative and practical educational methods and research in order to provide the students  a thorough understanding of the various management science tools needed within the business environment

From the Department Chair

As industry and business march towards the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), we are constantly seeing the need to integrate technology and innovation with a strong understanding of operations and quantitative methods. I believe that the Quantitative Methods and Information Technology (QMIT) Department is at the best place to combine knowledge and practice of these disciplines.

With the help of our dedicated full-time and part-time faculty, a number of our courses and electives have constantly been evolving in both content and learning methods. With the trust gained through the years and the experience of our faculty, we have entered into Memorandums of Understanding with companies like Accenture, KUMU and the Philippine Software Information Agency.  With our growth in the number of faculty taking their Masters  and Doctoral degrees and in partnership with part-time faculty, we have started publishing in SCOPUS journals.

Feel free to browse through our pages to see the extent of offerings of the QMIT Department.  Should you want to contact us, please send a message to me, or any of our faculty and we would be happy to provide additional information.
