Ateneo’s BUILD powers Canadian EV innovation: The story behind EVDrop’s smart charging solution
26 Jun 2025
In an age where electric vehicles (EVs) are rapidly becoming the new norm, one Canadian-based platform is making waves by solving a common yet overlooked problem: where—and how—to charge. EVDrop, founded in 2023, is redefining the EV experience with its smart reservation system, enabling users to reserve charging spots ahead of time and eliminating the stress of finding an available station. At the heart of this innovation lies a unique collaboration between Canada and the Philippines—specifically, the John Gokongwei School of Management (JGSOM) at Ateneo de Manila University.
The initial EVDrop system was commissioned to BUILD, the university’s business incubator, and brought to life by a team of faculty from JGSOM. At its core, EVDrop offers a user-friendly app that streamlines the charging experience. Much like booking a restaurant table, EV owners can now reserve charging spots in real time, reducing wait times and ensuring that charging stations are used efficiently. The platform prioritizes data security, real-time availability, and seamless UX—all with the goal of powering the future of electric mobility.
Founded by CEO Joseph Chio alongside co-founders Efren Antimano (Chief Sales Officer), Elma Antimano (Chief Marketing Officer), and Sonny Tan (Chief Finance Officer), EVDrop reflects a shared passion for eco-friendly transport and smart innovation. The team’s mission is clear: eliminate EV charging guesswork and fuel the green transport revolution through a solution that benefits both drivers and station operators.
